Every fall under a program for the state Dept. of Transportation volunteers turn out to count you as you ride by &#8212; an &#8220;old-fashioned&#8221; data collection method that still helps us understand who&#8217;s riding.<\/p>\n<p>Counting bicyclists and pedestrians helps more accurately measure demand, gauge the results of investments and plan for future improvement projects.\u00a0The count will also help measure WSDOT\u2019s progress toward the goal of increasing bicycling and walking while reducing the number of vehicle miles driven. <strong>It&#8217;s that time again so consider taking a turn.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9421\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Spokane-bike-count_SRTC-image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9421\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9421\" alt=\"A volunteer helps with the bike count in Spokane.
