{"id":681,"date":"2010-10-22T18:52:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-23T01:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2010\/10\/22\/these-boots-were-made-for-biking\/"},"modified":"2013-09-30T12:56:19","modified_gmt":"2013-09-30T19:56:19","slug":"these-boots-were-made-for-biking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2010\/10\/22\/these-boots-were-made-for-biking\/","title":{"rendered":"These Boots Were Made for Biking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_E_bkPrUAR0c\/TMHcHlI9h8I\/AAAAAAAAAE8\/hf-e0P7HgHQ\/s1600\/Cool+Shoes+on+Bikes+015.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530943840174573506\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_E_bkPrUAR0c\/TMHcHlI9h8I\/AAAAAAAAAE8\/hf-e0P7HgHQ\/s200\/Cool+Shoes+on+Bikes+015.jpg\" style=\"cursor: pointer; float: right; height: 200px; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; width: 134px;\" \/><\/a><br \/>And that\u2019s just what they\u2019ll do!<\/p>\n<p>As I pedaled my vintage blue cruiser (it\u2019s a Kia, did you know they used to make bikes?) to work this morning I couldn\u2019t help but put myself inside the heads of the car drivers who shared the road with me on our commute to work.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cWow, she\u2019s wearing a skirt and biking, maybe I could do that&#8221;<\/i><br \/><i><br \/><\/i><br \/><i>\u201cI remember when I had a bike on my basket.\u201d<\/i><br \/><i><br \/><\/i><br \/><i>\u201cThose are cool boots; I never would have thought to wear high heeled boots while biking.\u201d<\/i><br \/><i><br \/><\/i><br \/><i>\u201cIsn\u2019t it kind of early for a Halloween costume?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Okay, I made the last one up just now, but sometimes I do feel like I\u2019m wearing a costume when I\u2019m decked out in my neon yellow jacket, bike gloves, rain pants and helmet. I certainly don\u2019t look fashionable (those that know me well are laughing right now, since I never look fashionable.)<\/p>\n<p>Now, I\u2019m not knocking neon yellow jackets, I wear mine often, especially since we have so many grey and rainy days in Bellingham. I also have an obnoxiously bright pink vest courtesy of Feet First that is super reflective for night riding.<\/p>\n<p>I bike in my work clothes, skirts, dress pants or jeans. And yes, I admit, sometimes I don\u2019t wear my yellow vest. Like this morning, I just couldn\u2019t bring myself to put it on over my olive green jacket.  Even I know that would clash, and it would take away from the whole \u2018your bike is a fashion accessory\u2019 look that I was going for.<\/p>\n<p>I want to show people that you don\u2019t have to wear spandex shorts and a jersey just to get to work or the grocery store. You don\u2019t even need special biking shoes (although I do think my boots are pretty special). I understand that this attire won\u2019t work for everyone, if your commute is many miles, or uphill, you might need to change your clothes when you get to work. But for those that can do it, have fun! Wear high heeled shoes and a skirt on your next bike ride, just think of all the people you\u2019ll inspire, or at least make smile. Because biking is fun, but biking in heels is a blast!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>And that\u2019s just what they\u2019ll do!
