{"id":6154,"date":"2014-02-03T13:54:31","date_gmt":"2014-02-03T21:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/?p=6154"},"modified":"2014-08-15T10:54:36","modified_gmt":"2014-08-15T17:54:36","slug":"bring-parklet-seattle-neighborhood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2014\/02\/03\/bring-parklet-seattle-neighborhood\/","title":{"rendered":"Bring a Parklet to Your Seattle Neighborhood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seattle Department of Transportation is extending its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/transportation\/parklets.htm\">Pilot Parklet Program<\/a> and will accept applications until <b>February 28, 2014<\/b>. The Pilot Parklet Program, launched in the summer of 2013, will permit five new parklet locations in 2014. The City\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattlebikeblog.com\/2013\/09\/19\/citys-first-parklet-is-instant-hit-parking-day-to-showcase-more-uses-for-car-parking-spaces\/\">first parklet<\/a> debuted on Capitol Hill last fall and, most recently, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.downtownseattle.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/27\/the-chinatown-international-district-announce-new-plans-for-parklet-program-in-2014\/\">International District funded its planned parklet<\/a> with the help of a Kickstarter campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Parklets, a spin-off of the popular <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2012\/09\/20\/tomorrow-is-parking-day\/\">Park(ing) Day<\/a> international event, are small extensions of sidewalks into parking spaces. \u00a0They convert parking spaces into community gathering places and commonly feature public seating, greenery and bike parking.
