Dues are tax-deductible &amp; you're supporting bike advocacy, education, and engagement all around the state\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/support-us\/become-a-member\/\">dues, as always, are <strong>tax-deductible<\/strong><\/a>. People stopping in to shop will be invited to join and get the discount on the spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Spread the word about bike travel\/tourism in Washington state.<\/strong> We already distribute <a title=\"Bike Maps in Washington\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/resources\/bike-maps\/\">bike maps<\/a> from all over the state. We\u2019ll sell guidebooks\u2014including our own <i><a title=\"Pre-order your copy of Cycling Sojourner!\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/pre-order-your-copy-of-cycling-sojourner\/\">Cycling Sojourner Washington<\/a>,<\/i> coming out spring 2014\u2014and answer questions to help people plan great bike trips.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re arriving by Amtrak or taking light rail into downtown from SeaTac, we can be your first stop in town to get rolling with a Seattle bike map and much more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Share expertise with people interested in learning more about bicycling. <\/strong>We\u2019re a bike knowledge hub\u2014a great place to ask about upcoming rides in the area and around the state, pick up a copy of our pocket guide to <a title=\"Washington Bike Laws\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/washington-bike-laws\/\">Washington state bike la<\/a>w, get advice on lane positioning or whatever else you\u2019ve been wondering about from our 3 League-Certified Instructors (Josh, Seth, and Jack)\u2014you name it and if we don&#8217;t know it now, we&#8217;ll research it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4) Increase the unrestricted revenues we need to accomplish our mission while we make bicycling ever more visible. <\/strong>The store\u2019s mix will fill a distinct niche, <b>not<\/b> competing with the supplies, gear, services, and custom frames of Seattle-area bike shops or with the great bike-friendly fashion available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hubandbespoke.com\/\">Hub and Bespoke<\/a> in Seattle\u2019s Fremont neighborhood. People looking for a gift for a biking friend will find what they need, from posters and notecards to books, jewelry, and art. We regularly have tourists stop in to ask if we sell \u201cbike souvenirs of Washington\u201d and now the answer will be <em><strong>yes.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We also want to showcase great Washington bike businesses. Bicycling supports a larger sector of the state&#8217;s economy than many people realize and we can put that on parade with future exhibits and information.<\/p>\n<h2>How You Can Help<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Volunteers: <\/strong>We plan to staff the store with volunteers as much as possible. You\u2019ll handle retail transactions, field questions, share your bike knowledge, and when there\u2019s a lull we can use help checking and pricing inventory, looking online for more great things we can stock, writing answers for the FAQ section of our site, or researching bike travel destinations. Chances are, if one person comes in with a question others have it too, and we want to build our online clearinghouse of information.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll provide training, support, and if you\u2019re helping out while you job-hunt we\u2019re happy to supply the references you earn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vendors:<\/strong> We\u2019re looking for made-in-Washington bike-themed items to sell. If you\u2019re upcycling bike parts into jewelry, clocks, and lamps\u2014if you\u2019re an artist with a bikey piece\u2014if you make something you know will appeal to a bike-oriented audience\u2014if you\u2019re an author who\u2019s written a bike book and want to hold an autograph session\u2014<a title=\"Email address for WA Bikes general information and vendor inquiries\" href=\"mailto:info@wabikes.org\" target=\"_blank\">contact us<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visitors: <\/strong>Come by the shop! We\u2019re starting up with fairly minimal stock that will grow over time. More inventory is arriving every day. We&#8217;ll be open Monday-Friday, 9:30am-4:30pm.<\/p>\n<p>Our new <a title=\"Order Your Washington Bikes Jersey Now!\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/jersey\/\">WA Bikes jerseys<\/a> are on order and the coffee cups are already in, along with delicious <a title=\"Gear Grinder Blend: Delicious Support for the Bicycle Alliance\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2013\/03\/12\/gear-grinder-blend-delicious-support-for-the-bicycle-alliance\/\">direct trade, organic Gear Grinder Blend whole bean coffees<\/a> in medium, dark, and decaf (which you can also order direct for home delivery so you never, ever run out). Our neighbors in the building, <a title=\"Back Alley Bike Repair\" href=\"http:\/\/www.backalleybikerepair.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Back Alley Bike Repair<\/a>, make it easy to answer the question, &#8220;So, are you a bike shop?&#8221; with &#8220;No, but there&#8217;s one in the alley!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We appreciate the encouragement we&#8217;ve received from our landlord\u00a0<strong>Todd Vogel,<\/strong>\u00a0owner of the Nord Building; <strong>Nikki Somers,<\/strong> building manager;\u00a0and <strong>Karen True<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0<a title=\"Alliance for Pioneer Square\" href=\"http:\/\/allianceforpioneersquare.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alliance for Pioneer Square<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>For People Who Can&#8217;t Get to the Store<\/h2>\n<p>We have a few things <a title=\"Shop\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/support-us\/shop\/\">available for online ordering right now<\/a> and will grow the online inventory a bit over time, although we won&#8217;t put the whole store online.
