trail.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Thanks to the work of local advocates Anacortes has become the latest community <a title=\"Suburbs Join the Rise of Bicycle Friendly Communities\" href=\"http:\/\/archive.constantcontact.com\/fs173\/1102316596448\/archive\/1115276414694.html\" target=\"_blank\">recognized<\/a> by the <a title=\"League of American Bicyclists\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeleague.org\" target=\"_blank\">League of American Bicyclists<\/a> as a Bicycle-Friendly Community, joining <a title=\"Bike-Friendly Washington\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/resources\/bike-friendly-washington\/\">10 other cities in the #1 Bicycle-Friendly State in the US<\/a>\u00a0to receive the honor at some level.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Medal to the pedalers: Anacortes wins bike-friendly designation--in Go Skagit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.goskagit.com\/all_access\/medal-to-the-pedalers\/article_8331e791-9565-570c-b19f-0759f0315d3c.html#.UmHCDPCczdE.email\" target=\"_blank\">The\u00a0<em>Go Skagit\u00a0<\/em>headline<\/a> gives credit where it belongs: &#8220;Medal to the Pedalers.&#8221; The advocates who have worked for years, and who gained Honorable Mention status for Anacortes in a previous application round, used the standards of the League&#8217;s BFC program to work for improvements.<\/p>\n<p>The League was impressed with many aspects of the City of Anacortes\u2019 efforts to build a world-class bicycle-friendly community:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The great people pushing to make Anacortes a community that actively welcomes cycling of all kinds.<\/li>\n<li>Local achievements target=\"_blank\">Guemes Trannel Channel<\/a>, New Bicycle component to the Transportation Comprehensive Plan reviewed and approved by the city council, and the Local and Regional Bike Corridor Map for Anacortes and Fidalgo Island showing difficulty ratings, steepness, etc.<\/li>\n<li>And of course, the great support from Anacortes Bike\/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (AB\/PAC), Skagit Active
