It takes public planning, citizen support, political will, funding and engineering.\u00a0 There are opportunities in communities around the state to shape things in the planning stages to benefit bicyclists.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a sampling:<\/p>\n<p>WSDOT\u2019s SR 520 bridge replacement project is holding a Seattle community design public session on November 9.\u00a0 The process is intended to further refine the basic features of this project.\u00a0 The bridge replacement project includes bicycle pedestrian pathway and connections to it.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsdot.wa.gov\/Projects\/SR520Bridge\/I5ToMedina\/scdp.htm\">Meeting details are here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sound Transit\u2019s light rail system expansion in Seattle and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/projects.soundtransit.org\/Projects-Home\/East-Link-Project.xml\">Eastside<\/a>\u00a0(King County) have elements that impact bicyclists.\u00a0 The North Link project has a couple of open houses scheduled to update the community on the Northgate Station (November 9) and Brooklyn Station (November 16).\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/projects.soundtransit.org\/Projects-Home\/Project-Updates\/North-Link-Update-Oct-2011.xml\">Open house details<\/a>\u00a0can be found on the Sound Transit website.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Federal Way is creating a Bicycle and Pedestrian master plan and held an open house on it last week.\u00a0 You can still provide input.\u00a0 More information can be found on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityoffederalway.com\/bikeped\">city website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry County is developing a trail plan in a 28-mile railbanked corridor that stretches from Republic to the Canadian border.\u00a0 Check out the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ferrycountyrailtrail.com\/\">Ferry County Rail Trail Partners<\/a>\u00a0to learn more about the planned trail.<\/p>\n<p>Public comments are welcome through December 5, 2011 on the Sinclair Inlet Development Concept Plan.\u00a0 The plan includes a trail connecting Bremerton and Port Orchard via Gorst.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.grantsolutions.biz\/kitsa\/Sinclair%20Inlet%20Plan%20Nov%202011v1.pdf\">View the plan<\/a>\u00a0online.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bicycle friendly communities don&#8217;t just happen.
