{"id":512,"date":"2011-11-15T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-11-15T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2011\/11\/15\/support-complete-streets-for-spokane\/"},"modified":"2013-01-05T21:01:51","modified_gmt":"2013-01-05T21:01:51","slug":"support-complete-streets-for-spokane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2011\/11\/15\/support-complete-streets-for-spokane\/","title":{"rendered":"Support Complete Streets for Spokane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-xj4sYRKshM8\/S_GIIHn6TiI\/AAAAAAAAADw\/6lRlevoC3sA\/s1600\/100_2506.JPG\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-xj4sYRKshM8\/S_GIIHn6TiI\/AAAAAAAAADw\/6lRlevoC3sA\/s320\/100_2506.JPG\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;\">All of us use streets, right?\u00a0 We use streets to get to work, school, run errands, and to visit family and friends.\u00a0 Sometimes we move around our community in cars, but we also use transit, walk and bike on our streets.\u00a0 And sometimes we reach our destination using a combination of these modes.\u00a0 So it stands to reason that we want streets that safely accommodate us whether we\u2019re walking, biking, taking transit or driving a vehicle.<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;\">Many folks in Spokane have that expectation.\u00a0 A steadily growing group of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.completestreets.org\/\">Complete Streets<\/a> advocates in that community convinced Spokane City Council to pass a resolution in April 2010 to develop a Complete Streets ordinance.\u00a0 Great news!\u00a0 Sadly, over a year later, citizens are still waiting for City Council to enact the ordinance.<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/futurewise.org\/spokane\/completestreets\/\">Complete Streets Spokane<\/a> advocates are turning up the heat.\u00a0 They are circulating an <a href=\"http:\/\/statevoices.salsalabs.com\/o\/40\/p\/dia\/action\/public\/?action_KEY=190\">online petition<\/a> urging City Council members to pass the Complete Streets ordinance.\u00a0 They have also created a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/143275032410557\/\">Complete Streets Spokane II<\/a> group on Facebook.<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;\">Washington Bikes was one of the first groups to raise the Complete Streets banner in our state and we encourage our Spokane members to sign the petition.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All of us use streets, right?\u00a0 We use streets to get to work, school, run [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[16,49,51,45,53,23,25],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-512","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-accessibility","category-attitudes","category-complete-streets","category-bike-funding-policy-wa","category-politics","category-spokane-county-wa","category-transportation"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.7 -
