{"id":488,"date":"2012-01-18T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-18T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2012\/01\/18\/greenways-organizers-kick-off-the-new-year-with-a-meet-up\/"},"modified":"2012-01-18T16:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-18T16:00:00","slug":"greenways-organizers-kick-off-the-new-year-with-a-meet-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2012\/01\/18\/greenways-organizers-kick-off-the-new-year-with-a-meet-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenways Organizers Kick Off the New Year with a Meet Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.1pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\"><em>This post was submitted by Alexa Heidrich.\u00a0 Alexa grew up in Corvallis, lived in Portland, and studied abroad in Australia before she landed in Seattle.\u00a0 She will be a regular contributor to the blog.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/neighborhoodgreenwayssea.wordpress.com\/\">Seattle Neighborhood\u00a0Greenways<\/a> continues to build steam and connect neighborhoods through community advocacy and action.\u00a0 This meeting in Beacon Hill started with an introduction by Dylan Ahearn, and segued to updates from Madison, Phinney, Wallingford, Ballard and Delridge neighborhoods.\u00a0 Bob Edminston was fresh from presenting at Monday night\u2019s Madison Park Neighborhood Council meeting, which resulted in the addition of new members for the Madison Park Greenways group! <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.1pt 0cm;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.1pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Next up was Sally Bagshaw, who began with updated information about the RFQ for the upcoming Seattle Bike Master Plan update.\u00a0 She was able to intone City support for Seattle Greenways and improved bicycle facilities, which will be detailed in a press release coming soon from Cathy Tuttle of Seattle Greenways Wallingford.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.1pt 0cm;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0.1pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;\">Keynote speaker Blake Trask, statewide policy director of Washington Bikes,<span style=\"color: #333333;\"> <\/span>began his <i>Next Steps<\/i> presentation which provided the historical context of biking in Seattle, gave his comments about the current Seattle Bike Master Plan, and the importance of Greenways in the overall improvement of biking in Seattle.\u00a0 He emphasized that additional measures included emerging best practices of bike facilities which continue to evolve with international and national examples, such as better intersections, improved signals, and better data collection and analysis.\u00a0 It will be important to advocate for all of these improved facilities to comprehensively connect the neighborhoods of Seattle.
