{"id":457,"date":"2012-04-02T17:10:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-02T17:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2012\/04\/02\/hub-spoke-revamped-first-stop-wenatchee\/"},"modified":"2014-07-10T17:31:25","modified_gmt":"2014-07-11T00:31:25","slug":"hub-spoke-revamped-first-stop-wenatchee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2012\/04\/02\/hub-spoke-revamped-first-stop-wenatchee\/","title":{"rendered":"Hub &#038; Spoke Revamped: First Stop Wenatchee"},"content":{"rendered":"<table style=\"float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-wUkwlwCyoYY\/T3nawlgee9I\/AAAAAAAAAsM\/q8AgoXjL2y0\/s1600\/Picture1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-wUkwlwCyoYY\/T3nawlgee9I\/AAAAAAAAAsM\/q8AgoXjL2y0\/s320\/Picture1.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"239\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>pedbikeimages.org\/T.Robins<\/i><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>This marks the third year that Washington Bikes has conducted its Hub &amp; Spoke outreach tour, so we decided to revamp the format a bit.\u00a0 In addition to the popular bicycle meet up format, we added a half-day workshop \u2013 Growing Biking and Walking in Your Community.<\/p>\n<p>We launched the 2012 tour with a visit to Wenatchee in March.\u00a0 Community planners, school representatives, PTA members and citizen advocates joined us for the workshop.\u00a0 We reviewed the characteristics of a livable community, then honed in on what makes a place inviting to bicyclists and pedestrians.\u00a0 We examined challenges and how different solutions might be applied.<\/p>\n<table style=\"float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-amVk5Z6EXHE\/T3ndBQnGpHI\/AAAAAAAAAsU\/YEViPxHo2T4\/s1600\/IMG_4070+small.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-amVk5Z6EXHE\/T3ndBQnGpHI\/AAAAAAAAAsU\/YEViPxHo2T4\/s320\/IMG_4070+small.JPG\" width=\"320\" height=\"269\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>Photo by Andy Goulding<\/i><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Patrick Walker, transportation planner for the Wenatchee Valley Transportation Council, led us on a walking tour of the business district.\u00a0 He showed us an awkward trail connection and we discussed ways to improve it.\u00a0 We looked at some challenging intersections and shared ideas on how to make them safer.\u00a0 Patrick also showed us the spot in downtown where Wenatchee\u2019s first on street bike corral will be installed.<\/p>\n<p>We returned to our meeting room and shared ideas for encouraging people to bike and walk more.\u00a0 These included Bike to Work Day, walking school buses for children, and open streets events.\u00a0 We wrapped up the workshop with a discussion of tools and resources that communities can use to grow biking and walking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">After the workshop, we gathered at the Saddle Rock Pub for a bicycle social hour.\u00a0 We were joined by members of the local bike club and bike advisory board, bike advocates, and members of the Transportation Improvement Board\u2014who were holding a meeting nearby.
