{"id":452,"date":"2012-04-10T15:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-10T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2012\/04\/10\/board-news-meet-the-newest-members\/"},"modified":"2012-04-10T15:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T15:00:00","slug":"board-news-meet-the-newest-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2012\/04\/10\/board-news-meet-the-newest-members\/","title":{"rendered":"Board News: Meet the Newest Members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Washington Bikes is governed by a dedicated group of individuals from around the state who provide vision, leadership and organizational oversight.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>We recently welcomed three new members to the board:<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-wkqxskm2n94\/T3zJ3xBWQ1I\/AAAAAAAAAtA\/XCoHKMGmQFU\/s1600\/Marc+Mims+at+Spokane+Bike+Swap.jpg\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"182\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-wkqxskm2n94\/T3zJ3xBWQ1I\/AAAAAAAAAtA\/XCoHKMGmQFU\/s320\/Marc+Mims+at+Spokane+Bike+Swap.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\">Marc Mims<\/b> of Spokane Valley brings his experience in grassroots activism and social media marketing to the board.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You can read a <a href=\"http:\/\/bicyclealliance.blogspot.com\/2010\/07\/how-spokane-valley-cyclist-used-social.html\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;\">past blog post<\/span><\/a> about Marc\u2019s successful effort to save a bike lane project.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>An avid bicyclist, Marc sits on the <a href=\"http:\/\/spokanebikes.net\/wordpress\/\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;\">Spokane Bikes<\/span><\/a> committee and leads a weekly group ride for his local bike shop.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Some of you may have met Marc in March when he staffed a table for us at the Spokane Bike Swap.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>When he\u2019s not riding his bike or spoiling his granddaughter, Marc pays the mortgage as a freelance software developer.<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\">John Pope<\/b> of Anacortes is passionate about creating statewide bicycle routes and is eager to help the Bicycle Alliance with developing a northern route that would become a part of the US Bicycle Route System.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>His community involvement is extensive and includes serving on the boards of Skagit Regional Transportation Planning Organization, the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce and Skagit Council of Governments\/RTPO Active Communities Taskforce.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>John works for Tesoro Refining and Marketing and also serves on our Legislative and Statewide Issues Committee.<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-HfU3-LtRvwg\/T3zKAArEJeI\/AAAAAAAAAtI\/2VpR7xwJdK4\/s1600\/John_Vona+small.JPG\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-HfU3-LtRvwg\/T3zKAArEJeI\/AAAAAAAAAtI\/2VpR7xwJdK4\/s200\/John_Vona+small.JPG\" width=\"132\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\">John Vona<\/b> is a lifelong bicyclist and a daily bike commuter since moving to Seattle in 2007.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He got the cycling bug as a teen riding on congested roads to shore points such as Asbury Park and Belmar\u2014Bruce Springsteen\u2019s theme of being \u201csprung from cages out on Highway 9\u201d was more than a metaphor.
