Now it&#8217;s time to <a title=\"Spokane County Regional Trails Plan Update Survey 2013\" href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/D8QHK7X\" target=\"_blank\">give your input for the next iteration of the plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">The INTC\u00a0is a consortium of outdoor recreation and conservation organizations that promotes and advocates for viable natural habitat and trail corridors, both land and water.\u00a0INTC\u2019s vision is a system of paths, trails and open space corridors that connect neighborhoods, community and regional parks and conservation land in the region to engage people in muscle-powered recreational and conservation opportunities, promote active transportation, and preserve open space to enhance the region\u2019s quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlandnorthwesttrails.org\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4455 aligncenter\" alt=\"Inland Northwest Trails Coalition logo and web site banner\" src=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/INTC-logo.jpg\" width=\"546\" height=\"119\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/INTC-logo.jpg 780w, https:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/INTC-logo-300x65.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 546px) 100vw, 546px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A bit of history on the trails plan from INTC board president Lunell Haught:<\/p>\n<p>Trails are a high priority for Spokane County, as community needs surveys demonstrate that trails are the most used and desired facility. When line-item budget cuts meant that the Spokane County Parks, Recreation &amp; Golf Department couldn\u2019t move forward with the development of a non-motorized trails plan, the Inland Northwest Trails Coalition (INTC)\u2014with nudges from the Spokane Regional Chamber of Commerce (now <a title=\"Greater Spokane Inc.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.greaterspokane.org\" target=\"_blank\">Greater Spokane Inc.<\/a>) and Washington Bikes\u2014stepped in.<\/p>\n<p>The nascent coalition of trail supporters recognized both the ripe opportunity to create a regional trail system and the need for leadership, and decided this would be the new INTC\u2019s inaugural project. Over the course of three years, t<span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">he Spokane County Regional Trails Plan was drafted by citizen members and friends of the INTC in conjunction with the National Parks Service, Washington Bikes, Spokane County Building and Planning, and Parks, Recreation and Golf and adopted in 2008.\u00a0It has provided guidance for jurisdictions and agencies in developing and maintaining trails and been critical in securing <strong>more than $7,000,000<\/strong> in funding for trail and conservation areas. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Spokane County Trails Plan will be updated in 2013 and an essential aspect of this is public input, which the Inland Northwest Trails Coalition is responsible for securing. Input will be received through <a title=\"Inland Northwest Trails Coalition Spokane County Trail Plan Survey 2013\" href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/D8QHK7X\" target=\"_blank\">an online survey<\/a> as well as in person at locations throughout the county during the summer.<\/p>\n<div>The plan identifies and inventories existing trails, identifies general corridors, and notes specific trail construction.\u00a0\u00a0These trails include the Centennial Trail as the backbone of a trail system, <a title=\"Fish Lake Trail, Spokane County, WA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.inlandnorthwesttrails.org\/projects\/fish_lake_trail.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Fish Lake Trail<\/a> (FLT), Urban Connections, Rails to Trails conversions (in addition to FLT\/<a title=\"Columbia Plateau Trail State Park\" href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.wa.gov\/parks\/?selectedpark=Columbia%20Plateau%20Trail\" target=\"_blank\">Columbia Plateau Trail<\/a>), the Spokane River water trail, and the Parks to Peaks corridors that connect public land (Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of Land Management, local and state parks), providing wildlife corridors.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The four goals of the plan are to create a comprehensive trail system, maintain the trail system, have road and trail standards, and promote a trail system; these goals have related implementation policies.\u00a0\u00a0The plan is available at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spokanecounty.org\/data\/buildingandplanning\/lrp\/documents\/Regional%20Trails%20Plan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Spokane County\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Regional<\/span>\u00a0Trails Plan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve ridden your bike on the Spokane River Centennial Trail\u00a0or Fish Lake Trail, hiked [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[18,29,23,14],"tags":[315],"class_list":["post-4446","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-advocacy","category-wa-bikes-news","category-spokane-county-wa","category-trails","tag-spokane"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.7 -
