{"id":428,"date":"2012-05-11T15:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-05-11T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2012\/05\/11\/farewell-to-my-job-at-the-bicycle-alliance-but-not-goodbye\/"},"modified":"2012-05-11T15:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-05-11T15:00:00","slug":"farewell-to-my-job-at-the-bicycle-alliance-but-not-goodbye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2012\/05\/11\/farewell-to-my-job-at-the-bicycle-alliance-but-not-goodbye\/","title":{"rendered":"Farewell to my job at the Bicycle Alliance, but not Goodbye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: \"Arial\",\"sans-serif\";\"><i>After three years as our Office Manager and Membership Coordinator, Donna Govro is moving on.\u00a0 She looks back on her time with the Bicycle Alliance with some fond memories. <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-JzSkTggj1_c\/T6hi6jDnwwI\/AAAAAAAAAwE\/fA_KLB7vBko\/s1600\/Donna+Govro.jpg\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-JzSkTggj1_c\/T6hi6jDnwwI\/AAAAAAAAAwE\/fA_KLB7vBko\/s320\/Donna+Govro.jpg\" width=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: \"Arial\",\"sans-serif\";\">I have decided to leave my job at the Bicycle Alliance to pursue other interests of an entrepreneurial nature.\u00a0 It\u2019s with mixed feelings that I say goodbye, as the Bicycle Alliance has not only been an employer to me but an organization that supports my views on bicycling as a way to promote a healthy lifestyle.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;\"><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Arial\",\"sans-serif\";\">From the very beginning, I knew that the Bicycle Alliance was not going to be a typical, quiet office job.\u00a0 After only a few weeks on the job, I volunteered to participate in the Gay Pride parade and found myself in the office practicing the hand signals to the tune of the pop song \u201cYMCA\u201d and then bicycling down 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Avenue next to my new boss on his folding bike dressed in a clown costume. \u00a0Then there was the Tour de Fat bicycle event where everyone donned zany costumes.\u00a0\u00a0 We had volunteers dressed as the \u201cLunch Ladies\u201d serving beer and the President of the Bicycle Alliance wearing a beer tap vest and beer cap construction helmet as he carried the cash to the safe!\u00a0 Or on a more serious time when everyone in the office pedaled to Golden Gardens park one brisk, sunny morning to plant a memorial Susie Tree.\u00a0 There were many times that I traveled to various events during the work day or on weekends not by bus or car but by bicycle, giving me an even greater appreciation for our mission.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Arial\",\"sans-serif\";\">Looking back, I am sure that these are the things that I will miss the fun and quirky times.\u00a0 I might even some day miss the administration and organization that it took to support them.\u00a0\u00a0 But most of all I think that I will miss my co-workers and the volunteers.\u00a0 I also have to say thank you to everyone at the Bicycle Alliance, the staff, volunteers, members and the board.\u00a0 Through my association with the Bicycle Alliance I have learned many things, but mostly that I can bicycle anywhere I please.\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After three years as our Office Manager and Membership Coordinator, Donna Govro is moving on.\u00a0 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[29,38],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-428","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-wa-bikes-news","category-people"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.7 -
