The bicycle is a sustainable form of transportation.\u00a0 It\u2019s inexpensive, doesn\u2019t pollute, and is accessible to almost anyone.\u00a0 Bikes can be used by men and women, young and old, urbanites and rural dwellers.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Bikes can be recycled to new owners.\u00a0 A growing number of community bike shops<\/a> are appearing around the state, making second hand bikes readily available.\u00a0 Many communities have organized bike swaps as well, and there\u2019s no shortage of used bikes on craigslist.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
People are also finding creative ways to reuse bike parts, components and accessories.\u00a0 Some, like Alchemy Goods<\/a>, have turned it into a business.\u00a0 Others do it because it appeals to their creativity, sensibility, or both.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I live with an avid gardener.\u00a0 He\u2019s also a bicyclist and enjoys refabricating things.\u00a0 He recently repurposed some bike wheels and chains into a climbing trellis for his beans.\u00a0 His creation is functional, attractive and quite the conversation piece among our neighbors.<\/span><\/div>\n
