While we often talk about the beautiful or interesting <strong>sights<\/strong> along the ride,\u00a0inspired by a tweet from Tara Goddard we started asking people their favorite <strong>scents<\/strong> along their usual bike routes. From bacon to breweries to blossoms to bakeries we\u00a0got an interesting, um, bouquet in the responses.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">People don&#8217;t talk much about the scents of bike riding. First up, this Lynyrd Skynyrd song which, appropriately enough, was recorded on their Vicious Cycle tour. Given that they&#8217;re singing about the smell of death it&#8217;s a bit grim, but what other song has such a perfect refrain for this post?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Un-AY204Ir4?rel=0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some of the lyrics from &#8220;Smell the Rain&#8221; by Genevieve Chadwick capture the spirit of bicycling perfectly (as does the album title, &#8220;Riding the Wind Forgetting Time&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><em>I ride on the sunshine try and catch me if you can<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I feel like I\u2019m a God, tell me can you smell the rain?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>and these:<\/p>\n<p><em>I got what you want<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I got what you need<\/em><br \/>\n<em> You can\u2019t pin me down cause I\u2019m too free<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/64D5g6Q6qR0?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From that Washington original, Nirvana, &#8220;Smells Like Teen Spirit&#8221; (which actually doesn&#8217;t refer once to any smells):<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hTWKbfoikeg?rel=0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So tell us, what&#8217;s YOUR favorite smell along the ride?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Riding your bike puts you in touch with all your senses.
