Today, installation was completed on the Sammamish River Trail in Redmond. This follows successful installs in Bellevue and Bainbridge, and future installations of approximately 8 more counters in cities and towns across the state.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">At installation bike\/ped counter on Sammamish River Trail behind Redmond City Hall w\/<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wsdot\">@wsdot<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iheartkcparks\">@iheartkcparks<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/bikedata?src=hash\">#bikedata<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/wQvBaRFZcc\">pic.twitter.com\/wQvBaRFZcc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Washington Bikes (@WAbikes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WAbikes\/status\/613387755393908736\">June 23, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As we&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/04\/28\/dont-count-doesnt-count-bicycling\/\">reported on before<\/a>, this initial install of permanent counters follows a now-funded WSDOT\u00a0Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety grant proposal led by Washington Bikes, with support from WSDOT and Cascade Bicycle Club. The grant will fund coordination with 10-12 jurisdictions to install a total of approximately 50 permanent bicycle counters statewide. This work will begin in July 2015 (the start of the new fiscal year) and will closely follow the <a title=\"bike counter research\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wsdot.wa.gov\/research\/reports\/fullreports\/828.1.pdf\">methodology developed by researchers at Portland State University<\/a> to establish a clear metric of bicycle miles travelled for Washington state.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Diamonds are a girl&#8217;s best friend&#8211;especially when they&#8217;re marking new bike counters in the trail. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/bikedata?src=hash\">#bikedata<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/5TTmhQtxrG\">pic.twitter.com\/5TTmhQtxrG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Washington Bikes (@WAbikes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WAbikes\/status\/613394477386874880\">June 23, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Why build a statewide network of bike counters?<\/h3>\n<p>One of the more significant problems facing active transportation advocates and stakeholders is the dearth of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/activelivingresearch.org\/sites\/default\/files\/ALR_Brief_Bike-PedCounts_Feb2013.pdf\">accurate bicycle use data<\/a>.
