The\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" title=\"Ride of Silcen\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rideofsilence.org\" target=\"_blank\">Ride\u00a0of\u00a0Silence<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0honors those who have been injured or killed while bicycling on public roads and highways. Chris Phelan of Dallas founded the event in honor of his friend Larry Schwartz, struck and killed by the side mirror on a bus, to raise awareness\u00a0of people on bicycles and to ask that we all watch out for each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At WA Bikes we work tirelessly on safety issues and funding for better infrastructure so families won&#8217;t have to suffer the loss of a mother, father, sister, brother, grandma or grandpa, aunt or uncle, friend or teacher. The Ride of Silence reminds us how much more we have to do.<\/p>\n<p>Several communities around Washington organize local rides. Two route options:\u00a03-mile ride for families or beginning riders that goes past a spot where a local child was killed and then back downtown. From the first stop, other riders will continue up to a location where a local schoolteacher was killed on his bike and then back downtown.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"Ride of Silence 2015 in Wenatchee\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wenatcheevalleyvelo.com\/current-event\/ride-of-silence\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wenatchee<\/a>:<\/strong> Meet at Pybus Public Market at 6:30pm; brief program with Dr. Ed Farrar, ride departs 7pm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you want to organize a <a title=\"Ride of Silence\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rideofsilence.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ride of Silence<\/a> for your community, the site has an organizer&#8217;s checklist, sample materials such as a news release and ROS logo, and other resources.
