{"id":1302,"date":"2012-12-05T08:30:26","date_gmt":"2012-12-05T08:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/?p=1302"},"modified":"2012-12-04T01:58:43","modified_gmt":"2012-12-04T01:58:43","slug":"join-by-dec-31-and-you-could-win-a-bike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/05\/join-by-dec-31-and-you-could-win-a-bike\/","title":{"rendered":"Join by Dec 31, and You Could Win a Bike!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For 25 years Washington Bikes\u2014the state\u2019s first organization focused on bike advocacy\u2014has led the charge to shape statewide policies to <strong>make riding a bike in Washington more<\/strong> <strong>convenient, safe, and enjoyable<\/strong> whether you\u2019re just starting or have been rolling for years.<\/p>\n<p>But now, with Congress\u2019s drastic cuts to funding for bike and pedestrian projects in the recent federal transportation bill\u2014<strong>over 30% cut and no dedicated federal funds for Safe Routes to School!<\/strong>\u2014the action in bike transportation policy moves to the state level, where we have a track record of success. <strong>We can\u2019t quit now\u2014we have some steep hills to climb.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/20070515-SB-5412-5551.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1303 alignleft\" style=\"border: 10px solid white; margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 15px;\" title=\"Gov. Chris Gregoire signs SB 5412. 20070515-5551 WASENATE db\" src=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/20070515-SB-5412-5551-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the help of people like you\u2014<strong>bicyclists who care about making riding even better<\/strong>\u2014through the years we\u2019ve made a real difference.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Statewide Reach: <\/strong>We\u2019ve provided inspiration, technical assistance, and fiscal administration to groups around the state to help local advocates grow bicycling in their communities, supporting <strong>new organizations, new trails, and new events.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Funding: <\/strong>Washington Bikes and our partners successfully alerted and supported key legislators to affirm and restore <strong>funding for bicycle and pedestrian safety projects<\/strong>. Building on our groundbreaking push, which began in 2005, in the 2011 legislative session we secured $2.25 million in additional state funding for Safe Routes to School.
