{"id":12816,"date":"2015-05-04T15:27:13","date_gmt":"2015-05-04T22:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/?p=12816"},"modified":"2015-05-04T23:30:37","modified_gmt":"2015-05-05T06:30:37","slug":"give-big-better-bicycling-statewide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/index.php\/2015\/05\/04\/give-big-better-bicycling-statewide\/","title":{"rendered":"Give Big for Better Bicycling Statewide"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Every day of the year Washington Bikes is working statewide to ensure better bicycling for you. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattlefoundation.org\/npos\/Pages\/WashingtonBikes.aspx?bv=nposearch\">On Tuesday, May 5 be a champion and Give Big to help Washington Bikes grow bicycling statewide.<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattlefoundation.org\/npos\/Pages\/WashingtonBikes.aspx?bv=nposearch\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12827 alignright\" alt=\"Give Big 2015 - WAbikes\" src=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Give-Big-2015-WAbikes.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Give-Big-2015-WAbikes.png 500w, https:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Give-Big-2015-WAbikes-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Give-Big-2015-WAbikes-400x400.png 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a great 12 months at Washington Bikes to make better bicycling connections for you.<\/p>\n<p>Since May 2014 here are some of the things Washington Bikes has been a part of to grow bicycling statewide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bicycle safety for Washington&#8217;s children.<\/strong> Since 2010 over 56,000 children in more than 40 school districts statewide can bicycle safer because of <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/srts\/\">Washington Bikes&#8217; Safe Routes to School education program<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Establishing the state&#8217;s first <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/us-bicycle-route-system\/\">U.S. Bicycle Route<\/a> from Anacortes to Newport.<\/strong>\u00a0In <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/06\/04\/washington-states-first-us-bicycle-route-designated\/\">May 2014 US Bicycle Route 10 ( the State Route 20 corridor) was established<\/a>. It&#8217;s the first Bicycle Route to the West Coast and it connects travelers and tourists from around the nation and world to Washington state. At our November Gala &amp; Auction, WSDOT Secretary Lynn Peterson announced the establishment of a Scenic <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bikeway<\/span> Program to grow bicycle routes across the state.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Governor&#8217;s Task Force on Outdoor Recreation and Parks.<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/04\/29\/washingtons-great-outdoors-chance-shape-future\/\">Washington Bikes Executive Director Barb Chamberlain served as co-chair to Governor Inslee&#8217;s Task Force to grow outdoor recreation<\/a> in Washington state. One of the exciting outcomes of the work included a study showing <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/01\/08\/bicycling-means-business-in-wa\/\">bicycle riders spend $3.1 billion statewide<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>First Washington Bike Summit.<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/03\/23\/washington-bike-summit-2015-statewide-bike-conference-sell-crowd\/\">In March 2015 Washington Bikes held the state&#8217;s first bicycle summit<\/a> &#8211; attracting over 170 advocates and professionals from around the state to connect for better bicycling. <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/04\/07\/2016-washington-bike-summit\/\">We can&#8217;t wait for next year!<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Connecting advocates for better trails.<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/01\/26\/washington-state-trail-projects-2014-progress-report\/\">In 2014 many trail projects made progress, whether they were just getting started, adding mileage, or closing a significant gap.<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattlefoundation.org\/npos\/Pages\/WashingtonBikes.aspx?bv=nposearch\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12836 alignright\" alt=\"GB_Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/GB_Logo-400x337.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/GB_Logo-400x337.jpg 400w, https:\/\/wabikes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/GB_Logo.jpg 699w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Representing you in Olympia.<\/strong> While it&#8217;s not over yet, in the 2015 legislative session we passed priority bills to <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/04\/20\/governor-inslee-signs-dead-red-bill-law\/\">address broken red lights<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/04\/14\/legislature-approves-bill-grow-outdoor-recreation\/\">grow bicycling through outdoor recreation<\/a> promotion statewide (our work isn&#8217;t over this year &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/advocacy\/\">write your legislator today to ask for stronger investments in Safe Routes to School<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Counting bicyclists statewide.<\/strong> Washington Bikes is working to make sure that bicycle riders are counted statewide to improve safety and mobility. <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/04\/28\/dont-count-doesnt-count-bicycling\/\">In 2015 we are making great advances to establish a permanent bicycle counter system statewide<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>And More!<\/strong> Did we mention our <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/destinations\/bike-snohomish-county\/\">bike travel and tourism promotion work in Snohomish County<\/a>? Our work on the federal level to <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/12\/15\/federal-safety-performance-measure-biking-walking-developed\/\">establish a non-motorized safety performance measure<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/12\/18\/representative-rick-larsen-champions-biking-walking-safety\/\">to better understand safer street designs<\/a>? Or the <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/01\/15\/10-more-2014-milestones-in-washington-state-bicycling\/\">10 more milestones for Washington state bicycling in 2014<\/a>?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Every day Washington Bikes builds connections statewide <a href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2015\/04\/17\/connections-for-kate\/\">to enable people, like Kate, become champions of everyday cycling<\/a>.
