An event we thought would reach 100+ participants came to 185 and then some (we may have missed counting a few at the legislative reception Monday night). (<strong>Boldface<\/strong> cities\/towns are <a title=\"Bike-Friendly Washington\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/resources\/bike-friendly-washington\/\">Bicycle Friendly Communities<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Number of Bicycle-Friendly Communities represented:<\/strong><strong>\u00a011<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>out of 14 in the state<strong>. <\/strong>At the legislative reception Monday night Steve Durrant of <a title=\"Alta Planning + Design\" href=\"http:\/\/www.altaplanning.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alta Planning + Design<\/a>, a member of the <a title=\"League of American Bicyclists\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeleague.org\" target=\"_blank\">League of American Bicyclists<\/a> board, spoke about the Bicycle Friendly America program and encouraged attendees to work for their communities to submit applications. We look forward to welcoming additional towns to the\u00a0<a title=\"Bike-Friendly Washington\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/resources\/bike-friendly-washington\/\">list of Bicycle Friendly Communities in Washington<\/a>, the\u00a0<a title=\"Washington State Is America\u2019s #1 Bicycle Friendly State 7th Year in a Row\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/05\/01\/washington-state-americas-top-bicycle-friendly-state-7th-year-in-a-row\/\">#1 Bicycle Friendly State in America<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Types of businesses and organizations represented:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bike manufacturing, bike shops, bike clubs, bike nonprofits,\u00a0design\/planning engineering firms, cities, local elected officials, Chambers of Commerce, federal agencies, pedestrian advocates, trails organizations, public health districts, health foundations, transit, neighborhood organizations, metropolitan planning organizations, regional transportation planning organizations, WSDOT, colleges\/universities, Washington State Dept. of Health, local agencies including streets, public works, planning, and economic development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Percentage of attendees\u00a0not from Seattle:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>71.3%<\/strong>\u00a0(we reported a slightly higher number the week before the registration closed; Seattle supplied several of the final registrations processed).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do we track and report this?<\/strong>\u00a0Given the population distribution in the state it would be easy to hold a sold-out conference with 100% Seattleites. That wouldn&#8217;t represent our statewide mission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speakers: <\/strong>Every speaker and every session gave people ideas, information, and inspiration to take back to their hometowns.
