While you&#8217;re at it, invite them to join in one or more of the ideas below. And if you&#8217;re taking this seriously as a New Year&#8217;s resolution, research shows that telling other people increases the likelihood you&#8217;ll follow through.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>You know what a bucket list is &#8212; the things you want to do before you die. We&#8217;re not looking quite\u00a0<strong>that\u00a0<\/strong>far ahead with our #BikeIt question. We just want to know what kinds of things you want to do to enjoy and expand your riding.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the ideas listed here came from Twitter and we have a Facebook poll that collapses the detailed list below into broad categories (see bottom of this page). We&#8217;ve also been inspired by similar lists from partner organizations and people making New Year&#8217;s resolutions.<\/p>\n<p>Some are big, bold, and year-long, others more easily done. Some may already be routine for you, others seemingly out of the question. That&#8217;s the beauty of a list for all kinds of riders who have all kinds of reasons for riding.<\/p>\n<p>Add your ideas here in the comments or in social media and we&#8217;ll keep this list growing over time to share inspiration. Enjoy stumbling across something you wouldn&#8217;t have thought of.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bike for all trips of two miles or less.<\/li>\n<li>Get groceries by bike.<\/li>\n<li>Try a cargo bike. (What do you need to haul?)<\/li>\n<li>Recruit a friend to go for a ride.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Tell the Washington Legislature: Focus on Safety and Complete Connections\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/09\/05\/tell-washington-legislature-focus-safety-complete-connections\/\">Tell your state legislators you want them to support bicycling.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Thank<\/strong> your state legislators and other elected officials when they\u00a0<strong>do<\/strong> support bicycling.<\/li>\n<li>Ride a trail near your home.<\/li>\n<li>Ride a trail somewhere else in Washington that you&#8217;ve never ridden before. (Which one?)<\/li>\n<li>Donate to help build a trail you want to ride.<\/li>\n<li>Attend the new Washington Bike Summit (coming March 16-17 in Olympia in conjunction with Transportation Advocacy Day).<\/li>\n<li>Go on a bike tour.<\/li>\n<li>Go on one of the tours in\u00a0<em><a title=\"Cycling Sojourner: A Guide to the Best Multi-Day Bike Tours in Washington\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/support-us\/shop\/cycling-sojourner-best-bike-tours-wa\/\">Cycling Sojourner Washington<\/a>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><\/em>Support your\u00a0<a title=\"Resources\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/resources\/\">local bike advocacy organization.<\/a>\u00a0(Let us know if it&#8217;s not on our list.)<\/li>\n<li>Start a local bike advocacy effort. (Tell us if you do; we&#8217;ll help spread the word.)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">Test-ride an e-bike.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">Test-ride an adult tricycle. Better yet, get someone who shouldn&#8217;t be driving much longer to test-ride an adult tricycle.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Participate in an <a title=\"Open Streets: Coming to a community near you?\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2013\/05\/06\/open-streets-coming-to-a-community-near-you\/\">Open Streets event<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">Ride to school with a kid (mine, a grandkid, the neighbor&#8217;s child &#8212; you can probably borrow one if you have to).<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Get neighbors together to talk about how you can make yours a more bikeable, walkable part of town and start something rolling.<\/li>\n<li>Work in your community for a\u00a0<a title=\"Washington Bike Plans\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/resources\/wa-bike-plans\/\">bike master plan<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Coming to a neighborhood near you: safe streets\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2013\/05\/17\/safe-streets\/\">20MPH neighborhood speed limit<\/a>, or other improvements to policy and infrastructure. (What does your town need? Tell us in the comments.)<\/li>\n<li>Look at your community efforts with an awareness of your\u00a0<a title=\"Personal Privilege and Biking: It Takes More than a Bike Lane to Start Riding\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/06\/02\/personal-privilege-biking-it-takes-more-than-a-bike-lane-to-start-riding\/\">privilege<\/a>\u00a0and figure out how you can\u00a0<a title=\"Inclusion\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/09\/15\/inclusion\/\">include people who aren&#8217;t currently at the table<\/a>\u00a0when improvements are being planned. Then do that.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">Try mountain biking.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Try bike commuting.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in your local\u00a0<a title=\"Bike Month Challenges in Washington State\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/resources\/bike-month-challenges-in-washington-state\/\">Commute Challenge<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in one or more of the fun, informal challenges like\u00a0<a title=\"30 Days of Biking, 30 Words, 30 Pictures: Day One\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/04\/01\/30-days-biking-30-words-30-pictures-day-one\/\">30 Days of Biking<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a title=\"Coffeeneuring: A Bike Challenge Everyone Can Love\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/10\/01\/coffeeneuring-bike-challenge-everyone-can-love\/\">coffeeneuring<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the\u00a0<a title=\"National Bike Challenge\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalbikechallenge.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Bike Challenge<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Take your bike on the bus or commuter train.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">Try road racing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">Try <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\" title=\"Marymoor Velodrome\" href=\"http:\/\/velodrome.org\/mva\/\" target=\"_blank\">track racing<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Try cyclocross.<\/li>\n<li>Win races.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">Volunteer in the <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\" title=\"Help count bicyclists and pedestrians in your community!\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2013\/09\/04\/help-count-bicyclists-and-pedestrians-in-your-community\/\">annual bike count<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Get your workplace to apply for\u00a0<a title=\"Bicycle Friendly Business, League of American Bicyclists\" href=\"http:\/\/bikeleague.org\/business\" target=\"_blank\">Bicycle-Friendly Business<\/a>\u00a0recognition.\u00a0<strong>(Application deadline: Jan. 15, 2015)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Ask your employer to support\u00a0<a title=\"Bicycle Commuter Benefits: Information from League of American Bicyclists\" href=\"http:\/\/bikeleague.org\/content\/bicycle-commuter-benefit\" target=\"_blank\">bicycle commuter benefit<\/a>s if they&#8217;re already doing parking and transit. (We&#8217;d love to publish it. If you blog regularly about biking you belong on our\u00a0<a title=\"Bike Blogs in Washington State\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/growing-bicycling\/resources\/bike-blogs-in-washington-state\/\">list of Washington state bike blogs<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<li>Ride a certain number of miles per week, on average.<\/li>\n<li>Ride as many miles as you are years old.<\/li>\n<li>Set a new personal best for one-day mileage.
