Photo: University of Washington<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As Washington continues to lead the nation as <a title=\"Washington State Is America\u2019s #1 Bicycle Friendly State 7th Year in a Row\" href=\"http:\/\/wabikes.org\/2014\/05\/01\/washington-state-americas-top-bicycle-friendly-state-7th-year-in-a-row\/\">the #1 Bicycle Friendly State in the US<\/a>, the League of American Bicyclists has announced that the University of Washington is being upgraded from Silver level Bicycle-Friendly University to Gold.<\/p>\n<p>The Leauge examines 5 different categories to determine where communities, states, businesses, and universities stand: <strong>engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.5em;\">UW efforts to promote cycling on campus include self-service bicycle repair stations, a multitude of bike parking spaces throughout campus including bike rooms, lockers, and houses, and access to showers and clothes lockers for bicycle commuters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In honor of this designation League of American Bicyclists President Andy Clarke will present the Gold award to UW Associate Vice President for Facilities Services Charles Kennedy Thursday, Oct. 30, in Architecture Hall on the UW campus at 7:00pm. The event kicks off UW&#8217;s annual November \u201cRide in the Rain\u201d bike commute challenge.
