To help you put together a winning strategy for the 2016 Bike Everywhere Challenge,\u00a0we&#8217;ve assembled a simple toolkit including a sample timeline and inspirational ideas.<\/p>\n<h3>Suggested to-do list:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Register\u00a0for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.luum.com\/challenges\/120\/bike-everywhere-challenge\">Washington Bikes Bike Everywhere Challenge<\/a>\u00a0and form your team starting Sunday,\u00a0April 1.\u00a0Use the email templates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascade.org\/explore-commuting-bike-month-commute-challenge\/bike-month-challenge#template\">below<\/a>\u00a0to recruit teammates and newbies.<\/li>\n<li>Pick up your\u00a0Captains Packet with info for your teammates at a captain&#8217;s packet pick-up (while supplies last). See below\u00a0for packet pick-up dates and locations.<\/li>\n<li>Check out Cascade Bicycle Club&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascade.org\/schedule-events\">fantastic lineup of Bike Month events<\/a>\u00a0and mark your calendars.\u00a0Don&#8217;t miss the Eastside Bike Bash\u00a0on Tuesday, May 1,\u00a0or the Seattle\u00a0Captains Bash\u00a0on May 10th.<\/li>\n<li>And don&#8217;t forget\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascade.org\/bikeeverywhereday\">F5 Bike Everywhere Day<\/a>\u00a0on Friday, May 17!<\/li>\n<li>Spread the word! Go anywhere by bike!<\/li>\n<li>Challenge another individual or team on the Bike Month Challenge website.<\/li>\n<li>Join or create\u00a0a League (or three)\u00a0of\u00a0your office, your industry\u00a0or your neighborhood.<\/li>\n<li>Check in with infrequent riders. What&#8217;s holding them back from riding more?<\/li>\n<li>Register for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cascade.org\/breakfast\">Kaiser Permanente Bike Everywhere\u00a0Breakfast<\/a> and attend Tuesday, May 7th.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascade.org\/commute-stations\">Find a celebration station<\/a> on your route and ride with a friend on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascade.org\/bikeeverywhereday\">F5 Bike Everywhere Day<\/a> on\u00a0Friday,\u00a0May 17.<\/li>\n<li>Stage a special event at your workplace. Challenge yourself and sign up for one of Cascade Bicycle Club&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascade.org\/rides\/major-rides\">great summer riding events <\/a>or join a Cascade\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascade.org\/grouprides\">free group ride<\/a>\u00a0any day of the year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Inspiration\u00a0ideas<\/h3>\n<p>There are innumerable ways that you can build momentum for biking to work, among your team, your workplace\u00a0and your community. Below are our favorite suggestions gleaned from outstanding team captains of yore:<\/p>\n<h5>Inspire your team<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Ask team members to set goals for themselves and set a goal for your team.<\/li>\n<li>Submit your team photo to <a href=\"mailto:challenge@wabikes.org\">challenge@wabikes.org<\/a> or share on social media. Tag\u00a0@WABikes\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/bikeeverywhere\">#WABikeEverywhere<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Create a short team video and be entered into our prize drawing. Submit to <a href=\"mailto:challenge@wabikes.org\">challenge@wabikes.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Host ride theme days (e.g. Lycra, business suits, super hero, etc).<\/li>\n<li>Have a team feed: breakfast, lunch, or happy hour!<\/li>\n<li>Make sure new commuters have someone to ride with most days, but especially at the beginning of the month.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure to ride with each of your team members!<\/li>\n<li>Highs and Lows: ask your team to share their riding\u00a0highs and lows of the day\/week\/month.<\/li>\n<li>Challenge another team at your company or in your neighborhood.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Inspire others<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Recruit and mentor new team captains.<\/li>\n<li>Ask your business to promote the Washington Bikes Bike Everywhere\u00a0Challenge. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascade.org\/explore-commuting-bike-month\/promotional-materials\">Download graphics or request Bike Month\u00a0posters here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Get your CEO or local celebrity to participate.<\/li>\n<li>Share your success\u00a0stories via our blog. The theme this year is &#8220;Bike Everywhere,&#8221;\u00a0and\u00a0I&#8217;d like to encourage you to join the all-star cast of team captains.<\/p>\n<p>As a team captain, you can significantly increase bicycle commuting at _________ (their worksite). Captains recruited over 2,400 brand new bike commuters last year. Think about how valuable bicycling is to you, and multiply that by 2,400&#8230;that&#8217;s a lot of positive return for a modest investment of time on your behalf!<\/p>\n<p>To start a team, you simply sign up online, recruit three to nine more coworkers to join you and encourage everyone to ride as much as possible throughout May. In fact, the hardest part may be coming up with a team name. Bicycle commuting makes great business sense. Bike commuters are healthier and more productive employees. Bicycle parking is a fraction of the cost and space of car parking. Bike commuting is especially valuable to me as an employee because _____________________.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Bikes Bike Everywhere\u00a0Challenge is a simple turn-key program that has significantly increased bicycle commuting among both new and experienced riders. Last year, 22 percent of participants were brand new commuters. That&#8217;s an impressive result.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s more, it&#8217;s very simple for businesses to participate. Team captains like me recruit and encourage riders. The riders track their own trips online.
